NASA US Drift Practice - May 9, 2004

These are the pictures from Arizona's first NASA US Drift Practice on May 9th, 2004 at Phoenix International Raceway. Turnout was pretty good, although a couple of the vehicles ran in to mechanical troubles and had to drop out of the event mid-way though. I might write a little more descriptive bit later.

#3588 - Daniel making the most of weight transfer to drift his auto-tranny S14
#3594 - Brady wastes no time getting into a rhythm between turns 2 and 3
#3599 - Scott using his turbo power to effortlessly control the drift

#3608 - Champa becomes king of tiresmoke after a 360 recovery
#3621 - This one from a different lap; turbo power + open diff = "The Smoker"
#3623 - Brady continues his exercise in perfection

#3625 - Daniel getting huge angles without spinning or going off course
#3638 - Still making it look easy..
#3663 - Brady entering turn 6 - I need to get shots of this turn from the corner worker station! Everyone was spending 6-8 seconds or so sideways in this huge, 50-60mph sweeper turn.

#3682 - Brady did some grip driving practice in the HPDE group
#3684 - T.Y.'s car learns to fly!
#3694 - Champa holding a Tire-B-Que exiting turn 2

#3696 - Brady making the feint drift from turn 2 to 3. Large quantities of Champa tire smoke lingers in the background.
#3707 - One of the 944 race cars gives drifting a try
#3724 - Brady giving ride-alongs to future US Drift drivers

#3741 - One of the Honda Challenge drivers gives it a shot in an Integra street car. Word is, he received extensive driving instruction from Chris in Tucson.
#3752 - T.Y. using power-over drift technique to exit turn 2
#3761 - Loren did the HPDE first to refine his technique before jumping in the drift practice group

#3764 - Champa continues to give ride-alongs to very happy passengers
#3772 - This is about where I run out of interesting stuff to say
#3778 - T.Y. very loose through turn 2
